Canucks GM confirms Elias Pettersson news

To general manager Patrik Allvin, he'll be back in the lineup Friday night against the Hurricanes after sitting out six games due to an injury.

in March.

With his health fully restored, Pettersson will aim to build on a season that's been underwhelming thus far in his first year under a $11.6M cap hit. He's managed 10 goals and 18 assists for a total of 28 points in 34 games, making it his worst points-per-game pace since his 2020-21 season, which was marred by injuries.

Oddly enough, the 2017 fifth-overall draft pick played some of his best hockey this season when Miller was out of the lineup for personal reasons for much of November and December. In 10 games without Miller, he put up 13 assists and added two goals for a total of 15 points.

Upon Miller’s return, Pettersson went on a six-game goal-scoring drought. He finally broke out with two goals against the Sharks on December 23, but then had to leave the game early due to an injury that ended up putting him on the injury reserve list.

The Canucks have an open roster spot now that goalkeeper Arturs Silovs has been sent to the Abbotsford AHL team on Thursday, which means no trade is required for him to join the team again. Pettersson has had several different line partners this season, including Brock Boeser, Jake DeBrusk, Conor Garland, Nils Höglander, and Kiefer Sherwood, so since the team didn't have a morning practice on Friday, it's really hard to guess where he'll fit into the lineup.
