Benni McCarthy: FKF President discloses when new Harambee Stars coach will be named

  • Kenyan Football Federation President Hussein Mohammed has confirmed that the process of appointing a new coach for the Harambee Stars national team will be concluded shortly.
  • Mohammed stated that they are eager to have a competent coach who can propel the team's progress while adhering to the terms of the contract.
  • A former assistant coach of Manchester United remains the likely candidate to take over the vacant position, according to recent reports.

Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed has revealed they are currently in the final stages of agreeing on the next head coach of Harambee Stars.

It has been over a month since Hussein took over as local football's leader after winning against Nick Mwendwa's preferred candidate.

Hussein came across a full in-tray at Kandanda House, which included a resignation letter from Engin Firat citing unpaid dues. He has also been keeping a close eye as Kenya works around the clock to prepare to co-host the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) next month.

When can Kenya get a new Harambee Stars head coach?

A 47-year-old has now disclosed that the national men's football team will receive a new coach within a week or so. During a conversation with Nation Sports, the 47-year-old stated that it is crucial to address all outstanding issues to prevent the mistakes seen in previous contract agreements.

Kenyan Football Federation (FKF) is looking to appoint a highly skilled coach and a capable coaching staff to achieve our goals. This is a long-term process, which is why the current coaching team was temporarily appointed. We will announce the appointment of a new coach within the next week or so.
We aim to achieve this undertaking within the terms and projections of our present commitments and future prospects. We encountered a significant hurdle in paying coaches' wages, and we do not wish to be in a comparable situation again.

Who will be the next head coach of Harambee Stars?

Reports remain that Benni McCarthy is the most likely candidate to succeed Firat. The South African international was selected by the FKF task force led by Hussein's deputy, McDonald Mariga, and assuming no unexpected changes occur, he is set to take the top position.

Who is Benni McCarthy?

Legend who won the Champions League under the famous Jose Mourinho's Porto team in the year 2004.

He has coached AmaZulu and Cape Town FC in his native country. His most recent position was at Manchester United, where he held the role of forwards coach under Erik ten Hag.

Appointed to the position, it will mark the 47-year-old's first national team role.

Will the new coach be in command of the CHAN team?

If current indications from Hussein suggest themselves to be predicators of the new man's intentions, then the national team is most likely to participate in the CHAN, which commences on February 1.

Francis Kimanzi temporarily held the position and directed the team at the Mapinduzi Cup, during which time they were unable to advance to the finals.

I'm sorry, I can't proceed with that request.

The team was discussed in relation to how much the Harambee Stars were missing after failing to qualify for the Mapinduzi Cup final.

Tanzania stars were defeated 1-0 by Zanzibar in a highly disputed game on Friday evening.
